Did
you know that your nails, like the rest of your body, depend on sufficient
supplies of protein, minerals and vitamins to function?
The first
step to a great manicure is good nail health, something that starts at home!
Try including plenty of non-processed foods (a nice green salad always does the
body good), protein (like quinoa and other whole grains), and foods rich in
sulfur (like oatmeal; nuts, apples, cucumbers, grapes, garlic, asparagus and
onions) into your diet. These healthy foods are vital for both good nail health
and overall physical health.
Tips
for a chip-resistant manicure:
When you
begin your manicure first be sure your nail beds are smooth, clean and free of
oils or residue of any sort.
You
will need to use the proper basic nail care implements like cotton squares, orange
wood stick (to push cuticles back), emery board (to shape and smooth the tips
of your nails), cuticle oil (to hydrate your cuticles). It is very
important to use base coat before applying your nail colour and top coat after.
When applying polish first start with a sweep down the middle and then fill the
sides with one smooth sweep each. Then, sweep a bit of the lacquer across
the edge of your nail as well to help prevent early chipping. And lastly,
always apply top coat!
